The Internet is a horrible place…

This has been a consistent thought for me for what seems like the last 5-7 years. I think it stems from several areas including my younger kids and grand kids that can’t seem to function without a device in their hands and all the negativity that emanates from social media. This kind of thought makes me think I’m just a grumpy old man, you remember that guy right? The guy that wouldn’t give you the frisbee back when it went into his yard ”you damn kids, this frisbee is now mine!” I hated that guy.

I am a DYI’er, I try to do everything myself always have, always will. My most recent endeavor was to change the spark plugs on my 2012 Expedition (the Black Pearl as I call her), and changing spark plugs is something I haven’t done since early 90s when life, and cars, were more simple. So the first thing I wondered is if a mere mortal can do this and of course what special tools would I need. The need for special tools is a conspiracy by the automakers and mechanics so you have to take your car in to get worked on. I’m just messing with you, see how easy the internet gets it reputation.

So here is my epiphany! The place I went to figure this out was YouTube. Bam!! The internet. Not only did I find if I could do it, I also learned how to do it. There were several videos walking me through every step of the process, I could see exactly what tools I needed and how I could manuavure around the engine comparment to reach each spark plug. They also had great tips that saved me and my engine so needless to say I was able to change my spark plugs.

This got me to reflect back on my opinion of the internet. I mean the internet was invented in my lifetime and I remember every bit of how awesome it was to get online at 56 baud and surf. Of course back then there wasn‘t much content but it was still cool. Today I have fiber to my house and the internet seems endless. And much like all of life there are good parts and bad parts and it is up to us how we use it.

So the internet is not a horrible thing it can be as helpful as we make it.
